There is a lot to see and things to do once beeing in the South of Iceland. Colorfull mountains beyond belife, the greenest of the green Westman Islands, the powerfull vulcanos under the Eyjafjallajökull, Myrdalsjökull and Vatnajökull glaciers and the landscaping these glaciers continously improves. The wonder of Landmannalaugar and the beauti of many waterfalls, one could realy get "Lost in Iceland" Reykjavik - Thingvellir - Nesjavellir - Hella


thingvellir.jpgThe journey begins with a sightseeing tour of Reykjavík, the capital of Iceland. We will stop at all the main sites of attraction, such as City Hall, Hallgrímskirkja church, and Perlan, and there will be opportunities for short visits and photographs. Self-catering groups will be able to buy food in supermarkets. Next, we move on to the historic parliamentary site of Thingvellir. There, tour participants will learn about the history of the place and get a first impression of the unique geology of Iceland. A visit to the geothermal power station Nesjavellir, situated at the south side of the Thingvallavatn lake, provides an introduction to the possibilities of geothermal energy production. In the early evening we arrive in the little town of Hella, where we will spend the night.

2. day Kerid - Geysir - Gullfoss - Skalholt - Hella

After a short stop at the extinct volcanic crater Kerið, the tour takes us to the world famous geysirs in the valley of Haukardalur. There we will see old Geysir, the one hot spring which all other hot springs in the world are named after. A museum invites visitors to get to know more about the unique geology of the area. Then our journey continues to the nearby Gullfoss, the "golden waterfall," one of the main touristic attrations of Iceland, and then on to Skálholt, the former residence of the bishops of Iceland. Skálholt was more the cultural center of the Iceland for more than 700 years. Next we go to a turf-farmhouse from the Viking era, which was discovered by archeologists some years ago, restored to its original condition, and opened to visitors. In the evening we return to our accommodatin in Hella.

3. day Hvolsvöllur - Njála-museum - Vatnajökull

63.jpg Located a short distance from our accommodation, in the village of Hvolsvöllur, is the Njála-museum. A visit there gives us an insight into the fascinating world of the old Icelandic Sagas. The tour then continues eastbound on the Ring Road. and we will stop at several places of interest before we reach our accommodation at Vatnajökull glacier in the early evening.


4. day Skaftafell national parc - Svartifoss - Jökulsárlón


jokullarlon.jpg46630_5124.jpg After a short bus ride we reach the Skaftafell national park. At the visitor center we start on a four hours hiking tour through the park. At several view points during the hike, we can enjoy the unique view of the huge glacier Vatnajökull and the large black sandy terrains south of the glacier. We will pass Svartifoss, a waterfall with unique basalt columns, among the most photographed nature spots in the country. In the afternoon, the tour continues to the glacial lagoon Jökulsárlón, where a very impressive boat trip between big icebergs is offered in special amphibia-vehicles. In the evening we return to our accommodation close to the glacier.

Day 5 Vik - Dyrholaey - Skógar - Skógafoss

dyrholaey.jpgskogarfoss.jpg Today, the journey continues on the Ring Road westbound again. Later in the morning we reach the small village of Vik. The local church and a small wool factory, founded on the initiative of unemployed women in the area are well worth seeing. We will take a lunch break at the black lava shore, and then we continue the tour to the high bird cliffs of Dyrholaey. Dyrholaey is home to many types of birds, among them puffins, which are very typical for Iceland. From here it is not far to the small village of Skógar, where we visit the famous history museum and the impressive 60 m high waterfall Skógafoss. In the evening we return to our accommodation.

6. day Reykjavik

In the morning, the we travel back to Reykjavik, reaching the capital in the late morning. The journey ends here and the rest of the day is at the participations own disposal.
Should there be interest, we can offer a trip to the Blue Lagoon in the afternoon (not included in the price).
